Blasket island grey seals

These series of photographs were taken on the Great Blasket Island a remote island off the Dingle Peninsula in Co. Kerry, Ireland. The Isand is an E.U designated Special Area of Conservation with special reference to the grey seals, sea caves and upland health. This is the most westernly Islands in Europe.

During the winter months up to 1000 seals can be seen on the White Strand – An Trá Bán Beach. These seals come all the way from Scotland and the British Isles to breed around the Blaskets in late summer and early Autumn. I have visited the Great Blasket Isands on several occasions and it is like stepping back in time.A bygone era from the history books but beautiful.
